To NZ Bear on the use of sitemeters and how they work.

NZ

First lets make one thing clear.

The sitemeters on my families group of blogs have always been public. There has never been any attempt to hide or conceal exactly what we have been doing since we started using sitemeters. This practice has been public and has been publically discussed on the Rocky Top Brigade. Your implication that we are doing something that triples or quadruples sitemeter counts is simply WRONG

NZ Bear wrote:

"The result is that when a visitor lands on their main page, the visit is not just counted for their own blog, but is also double-, triple-, or in some cases quadruple-counted as a visit to the other blogs.

What this means is that the SiteMeter counters for the blogs in question are flatly inaccurate: they are being inflated by visits which didn't really happen on their pages. This also makes the Ecosystem Traffic Rankings inaccurate, defeating the whole purpose of the rankings, and is therefore intolerable."

This is not how sitemeters work and by limiting the group to one common sitemeter cumulative visits will increase NOT decrease. I know this to be the case because I have experimented with every different combination. There is no cumulative effect to the multiple meters - the multiple meters actually decrease the visits reported to the lesser visited pages by the difference in the meters which is why they show different totals. That is why these sites show different totals instead of the same total. (see
Blackfive Paratrooper of Love and Alliance Specialties that share a single sitemeter)

You have had AMPLE NOTICE from me that many sites on the traffic rankings show up in triplicate and duplicate as dual and triple sites with the same totals. These sites are visible every day on the Traffic rankings of the Ecosystem. I have personally e-mailed you specifically asking about this situation and have not received a response. Because I did not hear back from you I followed my own counsel about using meters on our group of webpages.

Those multi-sites sharing meters are listed below along with two high ranking sites DETLING HOUSE MEMORIES that has not posted since April 2002 yet shows the same total visits every day since traffic rankings were instituted and JOE KATZMAN with a link that leads nowhere yet the total always remains the same.

I will be happy to explain my (and my families) sitemeter usage. Rush Limbaughtomy, Savage Cruel Bigots (made for Michael Savage Day), Treason Online (primarily Ann Coulter when there is material) and Hell for Halliburton ( a Cheneyburton specific page) are all part of the same family of webpages all co-authored by myself or my family. We have stayed with Blogger for these first 5 months of Rush Limbaughtomy and 3 months of Halliburton and Treason where there is no multi-page facility. As a result we share sitemeters just like they would be shared if we were a group blog on an MT site (see Lt.Smash/Indepundit/The Indepundit or WarBlog Corner/Command Post/Command Post Op-ed).There is no facility on Blogger for multiple pages like on MT or Type Pad or other templates.

Now we could have placed just one common meter on all pages but we thought it was more fair to place the multiple meters because it indicated the difference in the visits to the various pages and did not result in all four pages showing up in a group as it the case with the blogs listed below. (Smash/Indepundit/The Indepundit or WarBlog Corner/Command Post/Command Post Op-ed or Blackfive/Alliance Specialties).

Since that seems to be a problem for you I have removed the alternate meters and I am now treating our family of Blogspot pages as one "site" just like the others on the list below with only one common sitemeter. In January when League of Liberals moves to an MT Community along with many of our member blogs my families four blogs will move along with them and they will "share" a common site meter on an MT site just the same as the others on your list.

From the sitemeter instructions page:

Can I put Site Meter on every page of my site?

Yes. That way you will be able to track the number of pages viewed on your site and the length of their visit. Use the same HTML code on each page from a single Site Meter account.

Do I have to put Site Meter on every page of my site?

You will need to put the Site Meter HTML code on every page that you want it to count. Site Meter only knows a page was viewed when a counter is displayed from the Site Meter server. If the page doesn't have a Site Meter counter on it, it doesn't know that someone viewed your page.

20) Detling House Memories 3249 visits/day (4796)
NO postings since April 9 2002 same total every day
28) Joe Katzman 2568 visits/day (3031)
ALWAYS "page cannot be found" same total every day (Joe now is with Winds of Change I believe)
30) Indepundit 2465 visits/day (1517)
31) The Indepundit 2465 visits/day (1309)
32) Citizen Smash 2465 visits/day (59)
Three different names for the same location occupying 3 spaces in the rankings
37) Rush Limbaughtomy 2311 visits/day (50)
41) Treason Online 2170 visits/day (521)
42) Savage Cruel Bigots 2170 visits/day (648)
57) Hell on Halliburton 1645 visits/day (448)
All four different blogs with the same family of author/owners used as different pages in a group blog on blogspot just like the various addresses for Smash/Indepundit or Command Post/War Blog Corner.
Each page has different content - each page is a visit to the same group blog just like the others only on Blogger there is no facility for multiple blogs under one name nor is there the ability to occupy multiple spaces with the same group counters - these blogs will become one group blog in January when the move to an MT community is made by the League of Liberals and many of the members of the League of Liberals.
60) The Command Post 1505 visits/day (57)
61) CommandPost Op-Ed 1505 visits/day (1699)
62) War Blog Corner 1505 visits/day (2486)
Again three different names sharing the same counters occupying 3 spaces in the rankings.
69) Alliance Specialties 1215 visits/day (2251)
70) Blackfive - The Paratrooper of Love 1215 visits/day (183)
These two different sites have common Blackfive sitemeters

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TOMORROW WHEN ALL FOUR OF THE PAGES HAVE ONLY ONE SITE METER IS JUST LIKE BLACKFIVE AND ALLIANCE SPECIALTIES - ALL FOUR WILL SHOW THE CUMULATIVE TOTAL OF ALL FOUR PAGES.

85) OUTSIDE THE BELTWAY 869 visits/day (47)
86) OTB Backup Site 869 visits/day (1614)

204) Deltoid 353 visits/day (199)
205) Deltoid 353 visits/day (874)

216) Musings from Domenico Bettinelli 329 visits/day (833)
217) Say Anything 329 visits/day (4442)

219) Head Heeb (Jonathan Edelstein) 325 visits/day (1308)
220) The Head Heeb 325 visits/day (418)

227) Signal+Noise 304 visits/day (2318)

260) Blogging Resource Websites 258 visits/day (3744)
261) Blog Tools and Software 258 visits/day (3454)

265) The World Wide Rant 250 visits/day (399)
266) the RANT: 250 visits/day (747)

When League of Liberals was founded by my family pages we included it in the group just like the others. Now that it has become a reality with many members I have detatched it from the groups' sitemeters. At one time it had all of the meters.
Today I have removed the last of those

Now you will find that all of the four pages have only one sitemeter just like the MT blogs that have different pages and the same sitemeter.

Now if you want to impose this restriction on our pages should you not do the same on all the multi-page sites shown on the Traffic Rankings? Or are we just singled out because we are not a part of the same political view?

I do not mind complying with any policy that you choose as long as that policy applies across the board to everyone on the Ecosystem.

Our strategy has always been public and viewable by any visitor to the pages in question. We have not tried to hide anything from anybody and we believe it is the same thing as the other pages we have tried to bring to your attention for a decision. We will do whatever you decide is fair for all pages concerned.

Cleaning Up the Ecosystem

If your interest is in "cleaning up the Ecosystem" I support you 100%.
Start by eliminating Detling House Memories and then look at Joe Katzman
both occupy high rankings without any apparent reason.

Then eliminate the duplicate pages

Then start eliminating the dead sites and old blogger sites that have been replaced by MT sites.
All of those will help result in a pure ranking system if that is your goal.

My strategies and experiments carried out in the light of day were attempts to find out how sitemeters work and how Blogger sites could act like MT or other multi-blog sites in accumulating visits. I thought my arrangement was more fair than what these MT type sites do since it lowered my visits.

Once again there are NO HIDDEN METERS anywhere on any of our pages.
We do not pay for hidden meters.
Hidden meters can be purchased from sitemeter at our level of visits it would cost 19.95 a month for between 50,000 and 100,000 visits a month.
I am not willing to pay 19.95 for those meters.

The Truth Laid Bear has thousands (over 5,000 pages) including the details pages for each listing. You accumulate a visit every time one of these pages is visited and they accrue to your total visits. The bulk of these pages are automatically updated by your program.

I do not know the "fairest" way to use sitemeters in your Ecosystem. There are arguments that could be made for several different senarios. I simply want what you get from using a common meter on every page and I would like to know how much each page contributes to the total. That can be accomplished by adding a second sitemeter to each page. I have tried every different combination I could think of to determine what worked. My belief is that dual meters is probably the best choice.

Each of our "Limbaughtomy pages" is usually unique. They have more content and more varied content that the majority of pages on the Ecosystem. It is a lot of work for us and we want to track the results. That can be done with multiple meters. The multiple meters do not increase the visits registered in the total. They decrease the totals for the lesser visited pages.

That is what I have learned from my experiments and I have shared the result of those experiments with anyone who cared to ask.

You have chosen to "think the worse" of me for my open experimentation.
You have unjustly accused me of using hidden meters.
You have attacked my integrity.
You have impuned my reputation by inferring that I was trying to INCREASE my visits with multiple meters when in truth I was LOWERING the totals.
You have the power to do whatever you wish with your Ecosystem
I feel that you have the responsibility to be fair.

As always I am willing and eager to do what is fair and I am willing to work hard to promote Liberal ideas and Liberal bloggers. I am willing to do that under whatever rules exist.

I would prefer to work these things out as I have tried to do by e-mailing questions to you about certain things I have noticed on your Ecosystem. Some like the IE problem on the showcase several days back you acknowledge and recognize. The questions I have asked about Detling House Memories, Joe Katzman and the multiple rankings of Indepundit/The Indepundit/Citizen Smash and Command Post/ Command Post op-ed/ Warblogger corner have gone unanswered.

Sometime ago you had an issue with Liberal Linker - I changed it to a study of the long list of lesser blogs on the Ecosystem. In doing that I discovered many dead zones and abandoned Blogger sites. I asked if you would be interested in "cleaning up the Ecosystem" by eliminating these dead sites OR if you would like me to make a list of them for you. In one segment of the ecosystem I found that close to 40% of the listings were dead or abandoned. You did not reply.

I have as much interest as you in a fair and accurate ranking system for the Ecosystem and I have offered to help.

The Truth Laid Bear is not telling the truth

The Truth Laid Bear is not telling the Truth

he has UPDATED his attack with the following:

Treason Online: Counters for Hell on Halliburton, Treason Online Update: And a hidden one for Rush Limbaughtomy.

Savage Cruel Bigots: Counters for Savage Cruel Bigots, Hell on Halliburton, and Treason Online. Update: And a hidden one for Rush Limbaughtomy.

Rush Limbaughtomy: Counters for Hell on Halliburton, Treason Online, Savage Cruel Bigots, The League of Liberals, and Rush Limbaughtomy (hidden).

Hell for Halliburton: Counters for Treason Online, Savage Cruel Bigots, and Hell for Halliburton. Update: And a hidden one for Rush Limbaughtomy.

There are NO hidden meters on any of these sites. I have not paid sitemeter for hidden meters. Each meter on each site is fully viewable and is not hidden.

The sitemeters on my family of pages are IDENTICAL to the sitemeters employed by The Truth Laid Bear on every page of the Ecosystem.
_____________________________________________________

These are the rankings of the 4 pages with multiple meters yesterday

37) Rush Limbaughtomy 2311 visits/day (50)
41) Treason Online 2170 visits/day (521)
42) Savage Cruel Bigots 2170 visits/day (648)
57) Hell on Halliburton 1645 visits/day (448)

These are the rankings of the 4 pages with a single meter today

35) Rush Limbaughtomy 2390 visits/day (49)
36) Treason Online 2390 visits/day (509)
37) Savage Cruel Bigots 2390 visits/day (581)
38) Hell on Halliburton 2390 visits/day (458)

The net result is a gain of 1246 visits

So my strategy was "gaming the system" to LOWER the total of visits.

No matter what is done with sitemeters they will never exceed the largest total of visits to the single most visited page.
________________________________________________________

The Truth Laid Bear is an interesting case.
In a typical day I visit the Ecosystem to see my ranking for links 1 visit
I then click on the rankings by traffic 2 visits
I then go to the alliances page 3 visits
I then go to the New blog showcase page 4 visits
I then click the top entries votes to see who is voting for each 5, 6, and 7 visits
I then go to my blog on the Ecosystem 8 visits
I click on the details 9 visits
I then might go to the articles page or front page to read the entry 10 visits
I then might make a comment
I might go to the cut and paste script for the showcase entries 11 visits
I might check the details for Treason 12 visits
the details for Halliburton 13 visits
the details for Savage Cruel Bigots 14 visits
I check the Large Mammals to see those rankings 15 visits
I check the Marauding Marsupials 16 visits
I do a search through the Insignificant Microbes for new liberal blogs 17 visits.
To view each of the classifications it adds 10 visits more 27 visits
If I need to add or subtract a member from our list of members 3 visits each time 30 visits. That is 30 visits a day I sometimes give the "Truth" Laid Bear.

So the Truth Laid Bear makes sure he is "credited" for every visit to every page in the Ecosystem and among these are many visits a day I am "responsible" for making to administer and moderate our membership and our voting.

Because TTLB has a common sitemeter on every page in the Ecosystem including the Updates page that is accessible for only the three "leaders" of the three Alliances he collects a visit for every page that must be accessed to fully view the Ecosystem. Is that "gaming the system?"

The Truth Laid Bear is now number three on the Ecosystem for links.
He has achieved this by offering scripts for alliance blogrolls, offering scripts for "I'm a Playful Primate on the TTLB Ecosystem", and generally encouraging people to pay attention to Ecosystem rankings. That is an intelligent strategy that increases his visits and his links. Is that "gaming the system"?

Our efforts have "aided and abetted" his efforts to increase his links and his visits because we have made the new blog showcase and voting and rankings more popular and more visible than they have ever been in the past. We have collectively given the Bear his greatest boost from any single group of bloggers because we constantly call attention to the new blog showcase and the votes there.

Now I could suggest that we collectively withdraw from the Ecosystem or that we follow his lead and form our own Ecosystem as he has suggested but I am not interested in diminishing him to build us up. To date our increase in interest in the Ecosystem and the new blog showcase has benefited the Bear's rankings more than anyone else.

If you wish to find fault with me for OPENLY experimenting with sitemeters on Blogger sites to try to duplicate what is easily done on MT sites that is fine with me. But I take exception to any description of my experiments as "underhanded" or "nefarious".

Everything I have done has been in full view of everyone who visits the Rush Limbaughtomy blogs. It has been openly discussed and is fully viewable and I do not apologize for it.

MY E-mail to NZ Bear offering a solution to his Attack.

To TTLB and the members of the League of Liberals.

This is more of my answer to NZ BEAR with the rest posted on Savage Cruel Bigots
with a link at the end of this message.

The Truth Laid Bear is not telling the truth
you have UPDATED your attack with the following:

By using one sitemeter for my family of pages I have accomplished what is done with all of these sites:

30) Indepundit 2465 visits/day (1517)
31) The Indepundit 2465 visits/day (1309)
32) Citizen Smash 2465 visits/day (59)
Three different names for the same location occupying 3 spaces in the rankings
60) The Command Post 1505 visits/day (57)
61) CommandPost Op-Ed 1505 visits/day (1699)
62) War Blog Corner 1505 visits/day (2486)
Again three different names sharing the same counters occupying 3 spaces in the rankings.
69) Alliance Specialties 1215 visits/day (2251)
70) Blackfive - The Paratrooper of Love 1215 visits/day (183)
These two different sites have common Blackfive sitemeters

A long list of many sites that give duplicate or triplicate listings on the Ecosystem is available here: http://savagecruelbigot.blogspot.com/2003_11_30_savagecruelbigot_archive.html#107020181624921916

all that I am doing is what is easily accomplished on MT sites.

The only TOTAL that this strategy effects is this total
Average Daily Visits (via SiteMeter)
Instapundit: 64644
Alliance of Free Blogs: 13282
Axis of Naughty: 8193
League of Liberals: 16625

which is only viewed by those visiting the Alliance page on your blog.

I agree that this total is "inflated" by our attempt to use blogger pages
like an MT site.

The alternative is not to accumulate my visits to one blog (which is what happens for all of the MT sites)
This is unacceptable to me because it penalizes my Blogger pages in favor of MT type sites.

I could delist three of the pages from the League of Liberals
To change the totals on this list I will delist these pages from the League if that is your remaining complaint.

That will result in a smaller total on the Alliances page
and I don't know anyone who cares about that total.

It will also remove 3 "members" from the League but it will not negatively impact % of participation
to the point where it would change the outcome of any of the showcase percentage of participation results so far.

That solution is acceptable to me.

Now if you agree that the sites occupying multiple positions on the Ecosystem by virtue of shared sitemeters should be eliminated from the Ecosystem I will agree to delist three of the four pages from the Ecosystem.

There is much more and you can read it here.

Because this is getting long I am posting the rest of this at this location. MORE INFORMATION

Suspensions Enacted - November 30, 2003 12:25 PM

Barry has not responded to my note below, and the time I set to have this resolved by (10am PST today) has now passed. It's time to resolve this issue and move on, and so I have acted: as of now, all the blogs listed in my previous post have been suspended from the Ecosystem, with the exception of Rush Limbaughtomy itself --- as per Barry's suggestion (which he still has inexplicably not posted on his blog, but did send to me and the League mailing list via e-mail), and my extension of his concept to apply to all his alternate blogs.

I'm not going to take the time to respond point-by-point to Barry's various posts on this subject, but I will address one comment he made, as it bears directly on the need --- or lack thereof --- to have multiple blogs. He said: "Each of our "Limbaughtomy pages" is usually unique. They have more content and more varied content that the majority of pages on the Ecosystem."

Ah. Would that be varied content like this?

Anyway. I hope Barry will recognize that I'm not going the final step and suspending him entirely from the Ecosystem. He can still compete, but each of his links will have to be earned from someone other than himself. And if he genuinely does choose to start a truly separate and distinct weblog someday with its own content, I'll consider lifting his one-blog-in-the-Ecosystem restriction.

As for the League, I hope the members of the League will recognize that I bear them no ill will as a whole or individually. I dislike the tactics that have been employed here, and I've been disappointed --- until this recent incident --- that in general, League members have seemed to display an "anything goes if its not against the rules" attitude to "winning" the game of the Ecosystem. I'm heartened to see many League members publicly denouncing this most recent SiteMeter-related behavior, and I hope this incident will provide a catalyst for the League to focus its membership on individual achievement and merit, and to condemning publicly the attitude of reaching for pure statistical gain through whatever means necessary.

If you're wondering just how badly these blogs distorted the League's rankings, I'll draw your attention to the League's total inbound unique statistics from this morning, before I suspended these blogs: 8597 unique inbound links across all the League's blogs. With the removal of the duplicate blogs, the League now totals 5641 unique inbound links. That's right: 34% of the League's total unique links were due to these duplicate blogs. To League members, I ask you: is that really the way you want to advance?

Anyway, enough said. That's it, folks. Show's over, so move along.

And by the way: to all those who expressed their thanks and appreciation for the work that I do on the Ecosystem, thank you in return. The acknowledgement is very much appreciated, and it does indeed encourage me to continue my own focus on the Ecosystem and related tools --- particularly at times like these.

Barry's Counterproposal - November 30, 2003 07:07 AM

Barry has proposed a compromise solution in which he indicates he is willing to remove three of the four weblogs that remain in question (Savage Cruel Bigots, Hell on Halliburton, Treason Online, and Rush Limbaughtomy) from both the League of Liberals and the Ecosystem. This would remove the duplicate-SiteMeter counter issue, and would also address an equally important issue for me, which is the significant cross-linking between these blogs that artificially drives up their link-ranking in the Ecosystem.

(Barry made this proposal in e-mail, and included a link to Savage Cruel Bigots indicating the post would continue there, but the link seems broken and the latest posts on his site don't match what was sent in e-mail).

I'll consider this proposal, however, it needs to be more complete. If Barry is willing to provide me a complete list of all of his blogs, and agree to only keep one in the Ecosystem, then this may be acceptable. I add this condition because, in addition to those we've already discussed, I believe that the following blogs which are registered in the Ecosystem and provide links to Rush Limbaughtomy are clearly his:

Bum's Rush - Clearly labeled as "Page 2 of Rush Limbaughtomy"
Hoggs Online - Posts signed Aurabass, Barry's e-mail name.

And the following group, all signed "BC", also look like they are probably Barry's:

The Pulse
Main Street
Open Template Testfile

If Barry provides that list, and gives his word to stick to a single weblog in the Ecosystem, then we may have a solution.

Ecosystem Suspensions Pending - November 29, 2003 09:03 AM

Link to the original post on The Truth Laid Bear any links contained herein can be found at this link

Effective immediately, six weblogs are being put on notice that they are about to be suspended from the Ecosystem. If suspended, their entries will not be displayed on any Ecosystem pages (either by traffic ranking or by links); their links will not count to other weblogs, and their votes will not count in the New Weblog Showcase.

The reason for these suspensions is that it has come to my attention via the Commissar that some weblogs are posting multiple SiteMeter counters on their pages which point to other weblogs. The result is that when a visitor lands on their main page, the visit is not just counted for their own blog, but is also double-, triple-, or in some cases quadruple-counted as a visit to the other blogs.

What this means is that the SiteMeter counters for the blogs in question are flatly inaccurate: they are being inflated by visits which didn't really happen on their pages. This also makes the Ecosystem Traffic Rankings inaccurate, defeating the whole purpose of the rankings, and is therefore intolerable.

I don't think it will surprise anybody who is paying attention to learn the source of these weblogs. Here's the listing of the top-ranked weblogs in the League of Liberals (by SiteMeter traffic ranking):

League of Liberals Member Details:
Rush Limbaughtomy (381 links) - 2311 visits/day V
Treason Online (76 links) - 2170 visits/day V
Savage Cruel Bigots (61 links) - 2170 visits/day V
The Mahablog (253 links) - 2170 visits/day
Hell on Halliburton (86 links) - 1645 visits/day V
League of Liberals (116 links) - 1486 visits/day V

And here's the list of weblogs with multiple SiteMeter counters:

Treason Online: Counters for Hell on Halliburton, Treason Online, and MahaBlog. Update: And a hidden one for Rush Limbaughtomy.

The Mahablog: Counters for Mahablog, The League of Liberals, and Treason Online. Update: And a hidden one for Rush Limbaughtomy.

Hell for Halliburton: Counters for Treason Online, Savage Cruel Bigots, and Hell for Halliburton. Update: And a hidden one for Rush Limbaughtomy.

So: the five weblogs above and The League of Liberals weblog itself are therefore on notice of their pending suspension. (Although the League weblog does not have multiple counters, it is clearly benefiting from having its counter cross-posted on other blogs). (Correction: Actually, on a second look, the League weblog does have multiple counters: it has a hidden one for Rush Limbaughtomy --- as do all of the other blogs above.)

If in 24 hours (let's call it 10am PST Sunday), the counters have not been removed, these weblogs will be suspended. This notice is also being sent via email to each blog's owner where it could be identified (although most of them don't seem to have contact information).

To be clear: if the owners of these blogs have a legitimate reason why they'd like to keep those multiple counters, that is their right, and that's fine with me. But it is my right to conclude that they are not generating valid statistics and therefore screwing up my rankings, and to remove them based on that conclusion.

Folks, if you can't tell, my patience for these games is running thin. I had intended to spend my weblog time this morning focusing on the effort to turn the Ecosystem into an open-source, distributed effort. Instead, I've spent it chasing down this nonsense. I'm tired of wasting my time on this type of thing: from here on out, consider notice given: if I think somebody is trying to game the Ecosystem, it's going to be suspend-first, and ask-questions-later. I wish it hadn't gotten to this point, but obviously it has.

Update: Barry has responded on Savage Cruel Bigots. His explanation of why his blogs were set up with these counters also completely fails to explain how a counter for his own personal blog -- Rush Limbaughtomy --- ended up on the League of Liberals' main blog page --- a question I would think League members would be rather curious about themselves. Bottom line: I believe his explanation of SiteMeter is wrong, and his proposed 'solution' is unacceptable, as it will still result in overcounting the visits that his blogs receive in the League's listings.

Further clarification: My last update was made in a rush, so probably wasn't as clear as it could be. Strictly speaking, parts of Barry's explanation of SiteMeter are correct. He quotes my explanation of what he has done, and says: "This is not how sitemeters work and by limiting the group to one common sitemeter cumulative visits will increase NOT decrease."

Well, it is how SiteMeter works. But his second part -- where he says limiting the group to "one common sitemeter" would increase the cumulative visits --- might well be right. But it's not what I was asking for. I thought it was obvious that was I was asking was for the individual SiteMeter accounts that actually correspond to each blog in question to remain on that blog (and only that blog). That will provide accurate statistics, both at the individual blog level, and in summary when rolled up for the League as a whole. (Remember: the Alliance details page shows summary stats for each alliance for inbound links and traffic). Instead, what Barry is doing is putting his own main blog counter (Rush Limbaughtomy) on every one of his family of blogs --- all of which are individually registered separately for the League.

Bottom line: Barry's current approach of spreading a common SiteMeter account across four blogs, all of which are registered separately as League members, is going to quadruple-count each visit to any one of those blogs for the League.
